Piano and theory

I'm an experienced private music teacher in West Seattle, providing piano and keyboard lessons at my teaching studio one minute away from the West Seattle Bridge.

With a balance of fun and creative study, I teach students to interpret written music and create their own, with focuses on expressive playing, listening skills, music theory, and great technique.

As a teacher with both a classical and a rock/pop background, I draw from a wide experience to teach piano and keyboarding. Though I teach students of all levels, I have an especially extensive background successfully teaching beginners, age group 5 to 12.

As a teacher, I customize my lessons to match each student's goals and strengths, and draw music from the contemporary, classical, pop and other genres. I teach piano full-time and feature two fantastically fun recitals each year to motivate and provide performance opportunity for students.

My approach is encouraging, humane, and caring. I have a music degree from Western Washington University and I've been studying piano since the age of 5. My rate is reasonable and based on the average rate for private piano teachers in our area.... See More

Hi! I teach 8 Week Piano and Vocal Courses for adult beginners. I love working with adults, and I do my best to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for my students to fully explore their music potential. I guide and support my students, and I challenge them to go outside of their comfort zone. My classes are private, in-home lessons and they involve lots of self-questioning, improvisation and experimentation. I give piano or guitar lessons to students in their home.

I graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and have been teaching clarinet and piano for over 20 years. During those years, I had opportunities to perform at the intermission of San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Mozart Summer Festival, made recordings with the Watchtower Society Orchestra as well as a recipient of the King County Arts Commission to perform chamber music series in King county.

Over the years , I taught students of all ages from 4 to 75 years old, from beginner to advanced level. Many of my students participate in their school band as well as Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestras, California Youth Symphony Orchestra and Washington State Honor band. One of my clarinet students recently received first place in the 2020-2021 Washington State Woodwind Performance Competition.

I usually incorporate music theory, famous composers and music history in the lessons. The repertoires include four periods of Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary music , Ragtime, New Age music, popular songs and movie themes. My students have the opportunity to perform twice a year in recitals, participate in the Music Artistry Program or formerly called Adjudication with the Washington Music Teachers Association as well as Solo Ensemble program in their schools.
