Kristen Tourville Wyatt received her Masters in violin performance and Suzuki pedagogy at Northern Arizona University. She completed her long-term training, along with additional endorsements, in Suzuki Books 1-10. Undergraduate work in performance was completed under the tutelage of Dr. Carolyn Huebl. Prior teachers include master teachers Dr. William Magers and Dr. Katie McLin, among others.
While in Nashville she played professionally with Ray Price and shared the stage with legends like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel, and Alison Krauss. Kristen teaches at various summer camps and institutes, from multiple fiddle camps--including Mark O'Connor's fiddle camp (certified teacher trainer for his fiddle method). She and her husband Matt Wyatt stay active in the community, from hosting jam sessions & workshops to playing & judging fiddle contests.
Kristen will be the Teacher Trainer covering the Midwest territory for Music Mind Games, Michiko Yurko's revolutionary music theory learning method. She is a member of ASTA, Suzuki Association of the Americas, and HASA (the local Suzuki Association chapter). She teaches Violin, Viola, Fiddle, and music theory in the Blue Springs & Independence areas and is the lessons coordinator for the Wyatt Violin Shop.
Fiddle lessons: styles include contest, old time, bluegrass, Irish. Improvisation and composition is a valuable tool for all styles (even Classical music uses it!) and is often included in lesson structure. Instruction style/approach tailored to fit each student - no two are the same!
